Flow Test of SCC
Flow table test is conducted on Self compacting concrete to
test its work-ability, by testing the flow of concrete on a flat table. It also
helps to determine the quality of SCC (which is consistency, cohesiveness, Less
prone to segregation & bleeding).
Equipment required for Flow table test:
- The flow table is made up of metal with a thickness of 1.5 mm and dimensions 750 mm X 750mm
- A Metal Cone (Lower Día = 20cm, upper Día = 13 cm, Height of Cone = 20cm).
- A tamping rod made of hardwood.
- A metal scoop.
- A measuring tape.
Flow Table Test |
- The test shall be conducted when the concrete is fresh & after the retention period (which is at the pouring point) place the flow table on a horizontally leveled surface.
- Clean the flow table, it shall be free from dust or other foreign material on Flow table and the table shall be wiped with a wet cloth just before pouring the concrete in the metal cone for testing.
- Place the metal cone at the middle portion of the flow table centered with the circular marking on the table and hold it tightly so that it does not shift during concrete pouring.
- Pour the design mixed concrete in the metal cone in two layers, each layer shall be tamped with tamping rod for 25 times. After tamping the last layer, the overflowed concrete on the cone is struck off using a trowel. The table is cleaned again with hand / cloth so that it is completely cleaned & moist.
- Lift the metal cone vertically up & let concrete fall on its own and take the shape of a circular disc. Stopwatch shall be maintained during this period, as we have to see in how much time the SCC is attending the targeted flow.
- Measure the spread of concrete diameter using measuring tape in horizontal direction of the largest diameter and perpendicular to it.
- The result is submitted as the flow table test result of that particular design mix of SCC, Flow range is 550 mm – 600 mm in T-50 sec = 3.5 Sec.
